04/09/2013: Bottlenose dolphins, Atlantic grey seals and a harbour porpoise

Eight bottlenose dolphins, two Atlantic grey seals

The survey began with a sighting just off the fish factory with one dolphin foraging. Another two adults soon joined and began bow riding. As the trip moved down the coast they spotted an Atlantic grey seal hauled out by the bird colonies. The next sighting occurred at Ynys Lochtyn with an adult and two juvenile dolphins foraging and travelling south. Another bottlenose dolphin also appeared at Ynys Lochtyn foraging and travelling northeast. The next sighting occurred on the return leg by the bird colonies, with one Atlantic grey seal hauled out with a pup suckling. A final dolphin was spotted in this location as well.

Three bottlenose dolphins, five Atlantic grey seals, one harbour porpoise

The first sighting of the trip occurred at 14.25, with one female Atlantic grey seal in the water by the bird colonies. The next sighting occurred at 16.10 with a seal in the water offshore from Cwm Tydu. The boat then moved further offshore up the coast and spotted one harbour porpoise travelling south. Another Atlantic grey seal was then seen closer inland in the water. Two more seals were then seen hauled out by the bird colonies, including a calf suckling. As the boat moved further up the coast two bottlenose dolphins were seen foraging, chasing and throwing fish. A final sighting just off the fish factory finished off the trip, with one bottlenose dolphin foraging.
