04/07/2014- Bottlenose dolphins

2hr survey. Start time 07:00
Weather conditions: overcast/dull/fair/rain, sea state 1, wind direction SE-S
Four bottlenose dolphins

Bottlenose dolphins were seen during throughout the survey. A mother and calf were seen traveling east into the survey area; they foraged near the harbour wall for 15minutes before traveling north east out towards the cardinal buoy. At the start of the survey another bottlenose was seen travelling west through the survey area.

Weather conditions: overcast/dull/mist/rain, sea state 1, wind direction S
Three bottlenose dolphins

Bottlenose dolphins were seen in the first 30minutes of the survey. at the start of the survey a mother and calf were spotted travelling west by New Quay head. Then another bottlenose dolphin was seen foraging also at New Quay head.

Weather conditions: rain/overcast/dull, sea state 2-3, wind direction S
Three bottlenose dolphins

Bottlenose dolphins were seen in the last hour of the survey. All three were foraging near the harbour wall, including one chasing fish at the surface.

Eight bottlenose dolphins

Bottlenose dolphins were seen throughout the survey. Many were seen foraging near the end of the harbour wall for the whole survey. A pod with one calf was seen foraging near the Cardinal Buoy.

Weather conditions: overcast/dull/rain, sea state 2, wind direction SW, S, SE
14 bottlenose dolphins

Bottlenose dolphins were seen throughout the whole survey. At the start of the survey three were seen foraging near the harbour wall before travelling east towards New Quay head. Later in the survey a pod of six were seen travelling south into the survey area. Several socializing behaviours were observed, including  tail slaps, leaps and splashing at the surface.
