03/08/14: Bottlenose Dolphins

Weather conditions: Sunny, Sea state 1-2, Wind SSE- W
Nine bottlenose dolphins and one Atlantic grey seal.

Bottlenose dolphins were seen throughout the survey. A single dolphin was seen foraging in front of the harbour wall but then moved out towards the cardinal buoy. An Atlantic grey seal was seen surfacing close to the fish factory. In the second half of the survey a further eight dolphins including two calves were sighted travelling and leaping around New Quay harbour.

Six Bottlenose dolphins.

At the start of the survey a mother and calf bottlenose dolphin was seen foraging in New Quay bay while a group of three dolphins leaped and mingled in the distance. A further single dolphin joined the mother and calf and the dolphin groups continued to be sighted until half way through the survey.

No sightings.

Weather conditions: Rain/Fair/Overcast-Dull, Sea state 2, Wind NW- SW
Six Bottlenose dolphins.
A mother and calf bottlenose dolphin were sighted close the harbour wall and continued to move round the survey area. They were joined by a further four dolphins who were sighted foraging, leaping and mingling.

Three Bottlenose dolphins.

Half an hour into the survey, a mother and calf bottlenose dolphin was seen close to the harbour wall and a further single dolphin was sighted foraging near the cardinal buoy.

In the first hour of the survey, two bottlenose dolphins were seen travelling and foraging near the cardinal buoy.
