02/08/2013 – Bottlenose dolphins

2 hour survey, start time: 9.00

6 bottlenose dolphins

The survey began with one dolphin seen foraging just in front of the harbour wall which then travelled North West towards the fish factory. One adult dolphin and a calf were also seen by the cardinal buoy foraging throughout the survey. These three dolphins remained in and around the bay until 10.30, at which point the adult and calf began travelling west and three adults appeared and began travelling east. These three dolphins remained in the bay, north of the harbour wall, until the end of the survey.

Weather conditions: sunny, sea state 1-2, wind S
5 bottlenose dolphins

The survey began with three bottlenose dolphins mingling and travelling around the bay for one hour. At 12.00 two bottlenose dolphins were sighted north of the harbour wall, one of them foraging and another seen mingling at the surface. At 12.15 four dolphins were seen, three foraging north of the harbour wall and one by the cardinal buoy. At 13.30 five dolphins were seen, and at 13.45 two pods formed, with three foraging by the cardinal buoy and two foraging in front of the harbour wall.

5 bottlenose dolphins

The survey began with three bottlenose dolphins foraging north of the harbour wall, with two calves. At 13.30 these pod dropped to three dolphins, and then to one later in the survey.

2 hour survey, start time: 15.00
Weather conditions: sunny, sea state 2, wind SW
4 bottlenose dolphins

The surveys first sighting was at 15.30, with one bottlenose dolphin seen travelling west. The next sighting was at 16.30, with two bottlenose dolphins foraging northeast of the harbour wall. At the end of the survey, one bottlenose dolphin was seen leaping and three were seen foraging, with one of them being a calf.
