02/06/12: Bottlenose dolphins and Atlantic grey seals

Five bottlenose dolphins

Towards the end of the survey two groups of two bottlenose dolphins were seen travelling W off the harbour towards the fish factory.  They were joined by a further bottlenose dolphin before splitting to form a group of two and three.  The group of three travelled W towards the Cardinal Buoy, whilst the remaining two stayed fast circling near the surface.

One Atlantic grey seal and five bottlenose dolphins

There were sightings throughout the survey, beginning with one Atlantic grey seal sighted in the water north of the harbour wall.  Two bottlenose dolphins were seen travelling east towards the cardinal buoy, with a further solitary bottlenose dolphin seen foraging close by.  The three stayed to forage, at times fast circling, and were joined by another two bottlenose dolphins foraging.  Activity remained around the cardinal buoy for the rest of survey, with sightings of single bottlenose dolphins and groups of two and three dolphins seen foraging.

Five bottlenose dolphins

Sightings were at the beginning of the survey, with a group of four bottlenose dolphins and a solitary bottlenose dolphin seen foraging near the cardinal buoy.  Numbers reduced to three bottlenose dolphins as they moved further out to sea over the next half hour, still foraging.
