01/10/11: 20 bottlenose dolphins and seven Atlantic grey seals

Seven bottlenose dolphins and two Atlantic grey seals

The first bottlenose dolphin sighting was off New Quay headland by the fish factory. The adult was seen resting and feeding. The first Atlantic grey seal sighting was off shore from Cwmtydu. The second Atlantic grey seal was also seen in the water but was sighted around Ynys Lochtyn. Two adult bottlenose dolphins were seen foraging east of Ynys Lochtyn just after midday. Upon our return to New Quay, four adult bottlenose dolphins were seen leaping off the fish factory.

Five bottlenose dolphins including two juveniles and two Atlantic grey seals

The first adult bottlenose dolphin was seen foraging at the end of the harbour wall as the boat left the harbour. A second adult bottlenose dolphin was seen foraging slightly further to the north of the harbour wall a few minutes later. An adult and two juvenile bottlenose dolphins were observed leaping and travelling east just off New Quay headland by target rock. The first of the Atlantic grey seal sightings was between Ynys Lochtyn and Cwmtydu. A female was seen in the water. A second female Atlantic grey seal was seen in the water just south of Cwmtydu.

Eight bottlenose dolphins and three Atlantic grey seals

The first sighting was a male Atlantic grey seal seen in the water off Cwmtydu. A female Atlantic grey seal was seen hauled out on the rocks between Cwmtydu and Ynys Lochtyn. The third Atlantic grey seal sighting was off a young adult observed in the water between Ynys Lochtyn and Cwmtydu. Eight bottlenose dolphins including at least two juveniles were seen leaping, tail-slapping and socialising off shore from Cwmtydu.
