Two bottlenose dolphins, two Atlantic grey seals

During the first fifteen minutes of the survey, a female Atlantic grey seal was swimming a few metres out from the harbour wall. The rest of the survey was very quiet with no sightings until the last half hour when a large male grey seal swam along the length of the harbour wall before disappearing. A mother and tiny new born calf bottlenose dolphins were then spotted approaching the end of the harbour wall. The mother appeared to be foraging while the calf remained by her side clumsily swimming.

Three bottlenose dolphins

Following the previous two hour survey, the mother and new born bottlenose dolphins remained close to the harbour wall and were joined by a third dolphin. The third dolphin then made its way out to the Cardinal Buoy where it appeared to be foraging. During the second half of the survey, the three dolphins remained in similar areas of New Quay harbour before travelling out of view.
