01/08/2016: Eleven bottlenose dolphins and 21 Atlantic grey seals

One bottlenose dolphin and eleven Atlantic grey seals

Three Atlantic grey seals were spotted in the water and hauled out near Birds Rock. Over the course of the next hour, five Atlantic grey seals were spotted in the water. On return to New Quay, three Atlantic grey seals were again spotted in the water by Birds Rock. Just before the end of the survey, one bottlenose dolphin was spotted foraging off the harbour wall.

Eleven bottlenose dolphins and seven Atlantic grey seals

At the beginning of the survey, three bottlenose dolphins including a calf were seen foraging off the end of the harbour wall and travelling out towards the headland. On the way down the coast towards Ynys-Lochtyn, three Atlantic grey seals and two fulmars were spotted. On arrival at Ynys Lochtyn, four bottlenose dolphins were seen mingling, foraging, and travelling in a north-westerly direction. On the way back to New Quay, four Atlantic grey seals were spotted in the water off the Ceredigion coastline. On arrival in New Quay harbour, four bottlenose dolphins including a calf were seen foraging by the cardinal marker.

Three Atlantic grey seals

Over the course of the first hour, three Atlantic grey seals were spotted along the coastline. A female Atlantic grey seal was seen in the water near Birds Rock, and two male Atlantic grey seals were observed in the water between Cwmtydu and Ynys-Lochtyn.
