Creepy Creatures & Crafts at the Welsh Wildlife Centre this Autumn

Over the half term holiday, at the Welsh Wildlife Centre, we have a great range of amazing autumn activities and ‘spooktacular’  Halloween events to keep you busy and entertained.

On Monday we will take you on a guided walk around the reserve to spot signs of the changing season. Collect things as we walk so that when we get back we can create a unique piece of nature art. Walks start at 11am and 2pm and are suitable for ages 3+ years.

On Tuesday, there 2 sessions of fabulous autumn themed craft activities using natural materials and also an afternoon session making pine cone bird feeders. Both activities are suitable for ages 3+ years and cost £3 per child each.

You need to be brave to visit us on Wednesday as Silent World are bring their ‘creepy critters’ for a hands on animal experience. Learn all about the creatures and get to touch them…if you dare! Booking is highly recommended for these sessions as numbers are strictly limited. Cost is £5 per adult and £3 per child and sessions are at 11am and 2pm.

Thursday is Halloween so brace yourself for our Halloween Hoot events! We have Pantglas Birds of Prey bringing some of their awesome owls to meet and greet visitors for FREE! Alongside this, there will be clay modelling sessions at 11am and 2pm. Make a creepy creature or a woodland friend using clay and natural materials. Costing just £3 per child, the crafts are suitable for ages 3+ years.

Our mysterious Halloween Quiz Trail will also be available from Monday –Thursday between 10am-3pm. Find the witches hats and solve the clues to win your spooktacular prize. Just £2.50 each.

Friday is a Hogtastic Hedgehog themed day. We will have Pembrokeshire Hogspital here with lots of information about protecting and helping hedgehogs this winter. If we are lucky and their hedgehogs are not hibernating, they may even be able to bring a little hog for you to meet. There will also be lots of hedgehog themed craft items for you to paint and take home for just £4 each. Come and have fun whilst learning how to help wildlife!

Summer Fun at the Welsh Wildlife Centre

Over the summer holiday, at the Welsh Wildlife Centre, we have an exciting range of outdoor nature activities and indoor craft events to keep you happy, whatever the weather.

Every Monday and Friday we have indoor arts & crafts activities suitable for all ages. Choose an item to paint and take away; we have lots of choice including money boxes, insect homes, bird feeders, plant pots and much more.

 

Tuesdays is shelter building day so you can practise survival skills by learning how to make a safe structure. Suitable for ages 6+

Wednesdays are Pond Dipping Days; we’ll be searching for beasts that live in and around the pond! Find out about the amazing lives of the creatures that lurk beneath the water and inhabit the pond margins.

Every Thursday we will search for creatures in two different habitats on our Mini-beast Hunt to find out what fantastic beasts are lurking in the undergrowth and woodland floor. Discover carnivores, herbivores and detritivores and learn who eats who in the miniature jungle!

Daily activities run from 11am-12:30pm and 2pm-3:30pm and cost just £4 per child. Booking is highly recommended, please call 01239 621600 to reserve spaces.

Spring into Action this Half Term at the Welsh Wildlife Centre!

Over the Half Term holiday, at the Welsh Wildlife Centre, we have an exciting range of outdoor learning and indoor crafty events to keep you busy whatever the weather.

On Bank Holiday Monday 27th May, Castle Archers will be with us offering you the chance to have a go at this brilliant traditional sporting activity! Sessions are available between 10:30am and 4:30pm and booking isn’t necessary. Come and have a go! We also have shelter building sessions so you can practise survival skills by learning how to make a safe structure. Suitable for ages 6+

If you like art and craft activities with a nature theme then you’ll love our Animal Clay Modelling activity on Tuesday 28th May. Try your hand at creating a woodland creature using air-drying clay and natural materials.

On Wednesday 29th May we’ll be searching for beasts that live in and around the pond! Find out about the amazing lives of the creatures that lurk beneath the water and inhabit the pond margins with our Pond Dipping event starting at 11am. On Wednesday afternoon and on Friday 31st May, we have an indoor arts & crafts activity suitable for all ages. Choose an item to paint and take away; we have lots of choice including money boxes, insect homes, bird feeders, plant pots and much more.

Thursday 30th May is a Beast Bonanza!! A Reptile Ramble includes a short informative talk about the reptiles found on the reserve, followed by a walk to explore secluded areas and hopefully see some reptiles! Some areas are uneven and slippery so not suitable for pushchairs or anyone with mobility difficulties.

Later that afternoon, we will be hunting for bugs and beasties with our Mini-beast Safari, looking in different habitats to find out what fantastic beasts are lurking in the undergrowth.
