My big adventure
When Rowan visits Sydenham Hill Wood, every puddle, tree and trail is part of the adventure. And his dad quite likes playing along too.
Black-spotted longhorn beetle
These bulky beetles can sometimes be found on flowers in woodland rides or along hedgerows.
Fireworks anemone
This rare anemone lives up to its name with a spectacular display of long, white tentacles.
How wildlife can be harmed by development
Spiked shieldbug
The spiked shieldbug has fearsome shoulder projections or 'spikes' and a predatory nature. This brown bug feeds on caterpillars and other insects in woodlands and on heathlands.
My hang out
In their busy lives Robin and David rarely get chance to meet up despite both living in Derbyshire. Cromford Canal is the perfect place for the brothers to spend quality time together.
Purple-loosestrife
A tall plant, purple-loosestrife can form dense stands of bright purple flower spikes in wet habitats like reedbeds, fens and marshes.
Golden-bloomed grey longhorn beetle
This beautiful beetle is fond of damp meadows and woodland rides, where it's often found on umbellifers or thistles.
Little cuttlefish
This little cuttlefish really lives up to its name - it only reaches about 6cm long!
Serrated wrack
This brown seaweed lives in the lower shore and gets its name from the serrated edges to its fronds.
Bugle
Often found carpeting damp grassland and woodland clearings, the blue flower spikes of bugle are very recognisable. A short, creeping plant, it spreads using runners.
