Find out all about the wildlife of Skomer Island - one of the most important seabird sites in southern Britain. The water vole is under serious threat from habitat loss and predation by the American mink. Found along our waterways, it is similar looking to the brown rat, but with a blunt nose, small ears and furry tail. We're on a mission to bring back this charismatic species back to the rivers, streams, and ditches of Wales!

The Sustainability Appraisal, Strategic Environmental Assessment (often called SA/SEA), and Habitat Regulations Assessment (HRA) are tests of the Local Development Plan (or Strategic Development Plan). They look at the effects of the plan on the environment, social, economic and cultural well-being, as well as the use of the Welsh language. The SA/SEA and HRA process runs alongside the Local Development Plan process, and you can comment on the SA/SEA and HRA themselves.

Only a 20 minute boat trip from the mainland, Skomer is an excellent place for a daytime adventure. Bursting with seabirds including our Atlantic Puffins, Guillemots and Razorbills, this National Nature Reserve is one of Britain's most important seabird colonies. It is peaceful and wild at all times of year - there's so much to see and explore.

With nearly 350,000 breeding pairs of Manx Shearwaters, over 40,000 Puffins, thousands of Guillemots, Razorbills and Kittiwakes and hundreds of Fulmars, Skomer is an internationally important seabird island.

It is located less than a mile off the beautiful Pembrokeshire coast making it a great place to visit for the day or stay overnight.
