This large, fluffy-looking moth is on the wing in July and August, but you might spot a caterpillar at almost any time of year.
Look for Water avens in damp habitats, such as riversides, wet woodlands and wet meadows. It has nodding, purple-and-orange flowers that hang on delicate, purple stems.
