Working together to protect wildlife
The Wildlife Trust of South and West Wales is an independent, autonomous charity with its own Board of Trustees. We are run by a small group of dedicated staff and supported by a large number of enthusiastic volunteers!
Water figwort
Water figwort is a tall plant of riverbanks, pond margins, damp meadows and wet woodlands. Its maroon flowers are pollinated by the Common wasp.
Connecting the Future - Nature Reserve Highlights
WTSWW’s ‘Connecting the Future’ project has allowed the Trust to invest in essential infrastructure work and equipment to enable them to maintain and enhance their valuable sites in south and west Wales so that they can continue to operate as key components in the Welsh nature network.
Skullcap
The delicate, tube-like, violet-blue flowers of Skullcap bloom from June to September in damp places, such as marshes, fens, riverbanks and pond margins.
Slavonian grebe
The rare Slavonian grebe is an attractive diving bird with distinctive, golden ear tufts that give rise to its American name - 'horned grebe'.
Goldcrest
A king among birds, the goldcrest displays a beautiful golden crown. Our smallest bird, it can be spotted in conifer woodlands and parks across the UK.

Our Wildlife Trust Brecknock Dormouse volunteers have been busy checking boxes at two sites at Halfway Forest, near Llandovery and a site at Crychan Forest, near Tirabad.

Storm Petrel
Our smallest breeding seabird, the storm petrel is barely larger than a house martin! They mostly nest among rocks or in burrows on small offshore islands.
Common rock-rose
Golden banks of common rock-rose make a spectacular sight on our chalk and limestone grasslands in summer. A creeping shrub, it is good for bees, moths and butterflies.
