National Marine Week Showcase - Meet Cody

For this year's National Marine Week, we are celebrating the work of our young marine conservationists at The Wildlife Trust of South & West Wales!

Meet Cody

Cody started volunteering with Cardigan Bay Marine Wildlife Centre last year and is now our Marine Conservation Intern. For National Marine Week, we asked Cody about her experience at Cardigan Bay, her journey into marine conservation and why she is passionate about protecting marine life.

Cody Ayre-Higgins

Tell us about your journey into marine conservation!

"I have a masters in Marine Biology. I have always loved the ocean and deeply care about conserving our marine species. Last year I volunteered with Cardigan Bay Marine Wildlife Centre, helping out with dolphin research. I am now an intern, helping out with outreach and education as well the research work. I also work on the boat as a tour guide, spotting and educating people about the marine wildlife in Wales."

What's your favourite marine species?

"There are 40 different species of shark found in the UK but I can't pick my favourite! Sharks are so cool they come in all different sizes, shapes and all have a unique role in the marine ecosystem, maintaining a balance."

Why are you passionate about protecting our seas?

"We have to protect our seas because we rely on the oceans for so much. We need to ensure that future generations can enjoy the marine environment."
