The Wildlife Trust of South and West Wales has for many years managed the two island nature reserves of Skomer and Skokholm. In 2006 the Trust was able to buy Skokholm Island with help from the Friends, Heritage Lottery Memorial Fund and others.
Joining the Friends of Skokholm and Skomer provides everyone - day visitors, research workers, volunteers and guests alike - with the opportunity to keep in touch with life on the islands.
The Wardens of the Islands are key people in the working of the ‘Friends’. They will keep you up to date with all the news and comment on a wide range of topics in the ‘Island Naturalist’.
In February each year, a Friends reunion is held in a beautiful Tithe Barn near Cheltenham. The day includes talks and lectures on Island and Wildlife matters. The Wardens present summaries of the year’s activities. Scientists and naturalists give talks about their studies, and island visitors bring photos and anecdotes to enliven the meeting. In addition there are talks about other islands throughout the world.
Your Friends subscription of £12.00 a year will be used to support conservation on Skokholm and Skomer. You will receive
· ‘ISLANDS NEWS’ magazine twice a year containing news, views and updates about the islands
· Details of the annual reunion for all friends
