An exciting post has come up at The Wildlife Trust of South and West Wales, this role will work with schools in the Barry area to deliver environmental and wildlife education in the stunning Environment Centre based on Dow Corning’s wildlife reserve. If successful you will be working with both children and teachers to create a better understanding of their local wildlife. This post is part time at 3 days a week, though some limited overtime will be available. If you are a self motivated individual, with a good background in teaching and a passion for wildlife then this could be an ideal opportunity for you. Your role will be to encourage primary and secondary schools in Barry to visit the centre and to deliver exciting and inspiring activities, from pond dipping to bug hunts. Aimed at Key Stages 1 & 2 you will be expected to deliver appropriate lessons to this age group. You will also train teachers to deliver practical activities once back in their own classrooms.

The Wildlife Trust of South and West Wales is a charitable organisation which has been delivering wildlife conservation since 2002, we are working collaboratively with Dow Corning, who fund the post, to inspire people about wildlife. Counter Assistant, Glasshouse Cafe

To be responsible for the counter and front of house operations in the Glasshouse Cafe

Post includes taking orders, making drinks and accurate cash handling; maintain a high level of cleanliness at the counter and front of house facilities; assist with overall cleaning of kitchen area; assist with deliveries and washing up as required.

Temporary contract from 21 March to October 2010, approximately 26 hours a week, Mon to Thurs 10.30am to 5pm. Some overtime may be available.

Lockley Lodge, Martin's Haven, Marloes

Skomer Ticket Attendant

To manage the daily running of Skomer landing ticket sales and provide information and service to the visitors of the area including Skomer Island NNR, the National Trust Deer Park, the nearby Pembrokeshire coast path and Lockley Lodge visitor centre (open Tues to Sun and Bank Holiday Mondays).

Position is responsible for the daily landing ticket float and sales records, liaison with boat crews, car park staff, Skomer Island staff and Lockley Lodge Manager. Also display accurate sailing information and service visitors regarding Skomer Island Nature Reserve and the local vicinity, tides and weather in a welcoming manner.

This is a fixed term contract between 25 April and 6 August (15 weeks) six days a week plus Bank Holiday Mondays, possible job share. The hours per day are 8.30am to 1.30pm.

Information Desk Assistant

To assist in the daily running of Lockley Lodge and Skomer landing tickets and provide information and service to the visitors of the area including Skomer Island NNR, the National Trust Deer Park, the nearby Pembrokeshire coast path and Lockley Lodge visitor centre. Also promote sales of wildlife gifts and souvenirs, membership and adoptions to visitors.

To supervise and support volunteers to work in the role of Information Desk Volunteer at Lockley Lodge and deputise for the Manager and deal with the daily operations of Lockley Lodge.

This is a fixed term contract between 15 March and 5 November (34 weeks), two days a week. The post covers one midweek day and one day of the weekend. A job share or one day a week each will be considered, 8.30am-4.30pm or until the last boat returns from Skomer.

We are looking for volunteers to lead and help run a Wildlife Watch group at The Welsh Wildlife Centre and Parc. However there may be opportunities to set up watch clubs in other areas, so please contact us for more information.
 
Wildlife Watch is the junior arm of the Wildlife Trusts. It encourages 6 – 12 year olds to take an interest in wildlife and the world around them through activities on environmental and natural history topics in a fun and educational setting. This is your chance to help inspire the next generation of environmentalists! 
 
Typical Wildlife Watch activities include: 
• Pond dipping 
• Natural arts and crafts 
• Minibeast hunting 
• Bird box making 
• Conservation tasks

Time commitment and location:  
Groups will meet once a month for 2 hours on a weekend.    
 
Skills required: 
You don’t need to be an expert to be a Wildlife Watch group Leader or a Helper - you just need to be enthusiastic, concerned about the environment and enjoy working with young people.  

 
Training and registration: 
Volunteers will be fully trained and will receive support and guidance from local and national Wildlife Trust staff. Volunteers must supply two referees, undergo an enhanced Criminal Records Bureau check and take part in an informal interview. Leaders must be 18 years or over; volunteers aged 16 - 18 can register as Helpers.
