Are you ready to go wild this June?

The Wildlife Trusts’ annual challenge – 30 Days Wild – calling on everyone to go wild every day in June starts this weekend.  This year looks set to be bigger and wilder than ever and so far, a record number of 60,000 people, families, schools, businesses and care homes throughout the UK have signed up to receive a free pack of ideas and to take part.

30 Days Wild encourages everyone to enjoy nature in our neighbourhoods through daily Random Acts of Wildness: listening to bird song, gazing at butterflies, growing borage for bees and making the most of our parks, gardens and school grounds. Evidence shows that taking part can also make us happier and healthier.

This year we will be celebrating our Big Wild Weekend on 15th and 16th June, to mark the occasion we have lots of exciting events taking place across South and West Wales.

Here are some of the events taking place:

Wildlife Watch – Crazy Crustaceans

Find out more about the different crustaceans which live in Cardigan Bay from giant spider crabs to tiny barnacles! Learn the best techniques for spotting these crazy critters on our shores before heading out to find some for yourself, and learn how to handle them carefully.

Meeting place: Cardigan Bay Marine Wildlife Centre

Date: 15th June

Time: 2pm – 4pm

Age: 6 – 11, but all welcome!

Price: Suggested donation of £2 to support the conservation work of the Wildlife Trust.

Clothing requirements: Wellies and weather appropriate clothing.

Dolphin Watch Picnic

Join our Living Seas Team for a dolphin watch picnic, looking out for dolphins, seals, porpoise as well as marine and coastal birds! Discover more about our amazing marine life whilst enjoying a bite to eat and sea views. We'll also be carrying out a survey monitoring local marine mammal populations.

Meeting place: Cardigan Bay Marine Wildlife Centre

Date: 15th June

Time: 11am – 1pm

Age: Anyone over 14 years old interested in volunteering

Father’s Day Trail

Looking for something to do this Father’s Day? Why not go on a wild adventure around Parc Slip Nature Reserve and discover the amazing beasts that live there.

Take our self-guided trail around the reserve and spot the wonderful creatures that live in the different habitats. From minibeasts, to birds and mammals you’ll be taken to the best places to find these animals.

Meeting Place: Collect a trail map from the Parc Slip Visitor Centre.

Date: Saturday 15th June to Sunday 16th June

Time: Drop into the visitor centre during the day anytime between 10:30am-3pm.

Clothing Requirements: Outdoor clothes, waterproofs and wellies/boots.

Age Group: Suitable for children aged 5+. This is a self guided trail requiring adult supervision.

Price: £2 per trail.
