30/08/2013 – Bottlenose dolphins, Atlantic grey seal

2 hour survey, start time 09:00
Weather conditions: Fair/Sunny, sea state 1-2, wind direction SW
Eight bottlenose dolphins including one calf

Dolphins were seen throughout the entire survey. The survey began with three bottlenose dolphins seen foraging at the fish factory and another two dolphins were seen foraging further east towards the second yellow buoy. These were then shortly joined by another dolphin that was spotted travelling East from the fish factory, thought to be foraging along the way. Half way through the survey, a mother and calf were spotted foraging near the cardinal buoy along with another adult. The lone adult remained for the rest of the survey, travelling around the bay whilst foraging and was joined in the final 15 minutes of the survey by two adults and one calf that began leaping and lunging near the fish factory.

Two bottlenose dolphins

Dolphins were seen in the first and the last half hour of the survey, foraging near the harbour wall and the cardinal buoy.

One bottlenose dolphin, one Atlantic grey seal

Dolphins were seen in the first half of the survey. One bottlenose dolphin was spotted foraging just east of the fish factory shortly followed by an Atlantic grey seal swimming in the water right at the harbour wall.

Two bottlenose dolphins including one new born calf

A mother and a new born were seen throughout the entire second half of the survey foraging close to the harbour wall.
