25/10/2017: Bottlenose dolphins and Atlantic grey seals

10 Bottlenose dolphins

Dolphins were spotted within the first ten minutes of this survey, with seven dolphins including one calf being spotted offshore in New Quay bay. They were observed tail slapping and foraging, with their spotting being assisted by the two associating gannets. The next sighting occurred closer to the headland, with two adults being seen foraging and head slapping. Another adult was then seen foraging just around the headland. Another four dolphins were seen swimming, foraging and tail slapping, with one the dolphins identified as being New Quay regular Snowcap!

The first sighting of this survey was of two bottlenose dolphins foraging within New Quay bay. The next sighting was of an Atlantic grey seal pup hauled out near Bird’s Rock. Two single dolphins were then seen foraging on the way back into New Quay bay.
