21/6/13: Bottlenose dolphins and Atlantic grey seal

Nine bottlenose dolphins

At the start of the survey three dolphins were present towards the cardinal buoy surfacing irregularly. They were then joined by a further two more from the west and formed a loose group in the bay, travelling and taking long dives. At 9:45 the number of dolphins increased to seven, with some of them splashing and lunging. In the second half of the survey they continued to do the same behaviours with the numbers of dolphins varying from four to nine.

One Atlantic grey seal

At 12:00 a single Atlantic grey seal was seen just north of the harbour wall.

Two bottlenose dolphins and one Atlantic grey seal

A single bottlenose dolphin was spotted surfacing irregularly, thought to be foraging, towards the fish factory. An Atlantic grey seal was seen in the waters just north of the harbour wall then another dolphin entered the survey area. By the second half of the survey the dolphins were heading west past the fish factory and out of the survey zone.
