19/09/2017: Bottlenose dolphins and Atlantic grey seals

4 Bottlenose dolphins and 7 Atlantic grey seals

10 mins into this survey a female Atlantic grey seal was seen hauled out 50m from the boat. 20 mins later a male seal was then seen in the water. This was followed by another sighting of a two Atlantic grey seals hauled out. The sightings of grey seals continued within the following 25 minutes with three more seen with the first and last of these three hauled out and the other in the water. In the last 15 mins of this survey two mother and calf pairs of bottlenose dolphins were seen foraging with the closest being 50m from the boat and the other being 300m away.

In the first 5 mins of this survey a mother and calf pair of bottlenose dolphins were seen just outside of New Quay harbour foraging 200m from the boat. The next sighting then came 20 mins later when an Atlantic grey seal was seen hauled out 100m from the boat. The next sighting came an hour later when 6 seals were seen 50m from the boat with three being adults and the other three pups. 10 mins later a further 4 seals were seen, including 3 pups. Then in the final 10 mins of the trip one further bottlenose dolphin was seen leaping 300m from the boat.

The first and only sighting of this trip came 50 mins into the survey when 4 Atlantic grey seals were seen. This sighting included 3 pups and 1 adult male which was in the water around the beach where the pups are at Cwmtydu.
