6hr Survey. Start time 10:15
Weather conditions: sea state 1-3, visibility >10km, light swell
At the beginning of the survey between 10:00-11:00, seven bottlenose dolphins were spotted in the bay near the fish factory travelling east as the boat was leaving New Quay. Two harbour porpoises were seen near bird rock foraging soon after. Another harbour porpoise was also briefly spotted off the coast of Cardigan island.
Then at around 13:00, 215 Atlantic grey seals were spotted near the mouth of the river Teifi just south of Cardigan Island. There was a range of different age groups but males and pups made up most of the population. Some were in the water whilst others were hauled out. Some entered the water as the boat arrived. Five chough birds were also seen feeding and diving near the seal site. Two bottlenose dolphins were then spotted around 2pm in between Cardigan Island and Aberporth. There were also lots of bird sightings including manx shearwaters, shelducks, fulmars, kittiwakes, guillemots and scoters.
