1/11/2017: Bottlenose dolphins and Atlantic grey seals

2hr survey. Start time 09:00

Weather conditions: Fair/sunny, sea state 1, wind direction SE

Sixteen dolphin individuals were spotted during this two-hour survey, with an initial eleven dolphins in the bay 09:00, including two juveniles. The group was spread between the fish factory headland, the cardinal marker and the harbour wall and displayed foraging and leaping behaviours. At the end of the survey there were seven dolphins in the survey area.


2hr survey. Start time 11:00

Weather conditions: Fair, sea state 1, wind direction S

The dolphins from the previous survey left the bay before the start of this one, therefore the only marine mammal sighting was at 11:30; a lone Atlantic Grey Seal close to the wall, which was seen bottling before disappearing again.


2hr survey. Start time 13:00

Weather conditions: Sunny/fair, sea state 1, wind direction W

No marine mammal sightings.


2hr survey. Start time 15:00

Weather conditions: Fair, sea state 0-1, wind direction SW

No dolphin sightings, however there were two Grey seals spotted toward the end of this survey, two females were spotted just to the North of the harbour wall, they displayed bottling and scanning behaviours before swimming away.
