10/11/15: Bottlenose Dolphins and Atlantic Grey Seals

2hr survey. Start time 09:00
Weather conditions: Dull/overcast with occasional rain, sea state 2 to 4 off shore, wind direction SE to S
9 Bottlenose Dolphins and 2 Atlantic Grey Seals

At start of the survey four dolphins including one juvenile were located about 300 m off the fish factory foraging at depth. They remained within the general area off the fish factory for the next 30 minutes. A grey seal was also observed in front of the harbour wall. The dolphin group then split, two dolphins moving towards the Cardinal Buoy and a third moving close to the harbour wall whilst one appeared to leave the area. At around 09.45 a second group of five dolphins including one juvenile entered the area off the fish factory. These were observed chasing fish on the surface and one dolphin was seen tossing fish. The two distinct groups remained in the area for the next hour and then all dolphins left the area. A second grey seal was then seen off the harbour wall. In the final half hour of the survey a single dolphin was seen leaping about 1 km beyond the fish factory.
