02/09/2017: Bottlenose dolphins and Atlantic grey seals

Three bottlenose dolphins including two calves were seen foraging in the bay, and were identified as New Quay regulars Jacky, Jay and Joey. This group continued to forage between the fish factory and the cardinal marker for the rest of the survey, with some more bottlenose dolphins joining the group and one dolphin coming up quite close to the wall. An Atlantic grey seal was also seen in the water by the harbour wall at a few points throughout the survey.

The survey started with an Atlantic grey seal in the water scanning by the harbour wall, and a group of five bottlenose dolphins including a calf being very active around the cardinal marker, with some lunging recorded. This group was present for half of the survey, after which there were no more sightings.

A male Atlantic grey seal was spotted bottling in the water by the fish factory, and was present for about an hour of the survey, but was not spotted in the last 15 minutes.

Jacky and Jay were seen foraging in the bay around the bay for the first half of the survey, before heading away from the survey area past the fish factory.

No marine mammal sightings, but a barrel jellyfish was spotted.

For the majority of this survey a group of three bottlenose dolphins including a calf were seen foraging in the bay, at one point coming up close to the harbour wall, before heading towards the cardinal marker.
