Objective 1 Development Project

The diggers moved in on 7 August 2006 to start the development project at the Welsh Wildlife Centre. The Welsh Wildlife Centre development is an element of the Teifi Estuary Environmental Tourism Development Scheme, which is being co-ordinated by Ceredigion County Council, and funded by Objective 1. The project aim is to enhance the experience that our visitors have whilst here with us, to improve the access to the visitor centre and to offer better facilities outside of the main holiday season.

The first changes to the surrounding area outside of the visitor centre was a large pond in front of the visitor centre to encourage wetland birds. Wildlife Trust staff and volunteers planted up the pond with cuttings taken from elsewhere on the reserve and it is encouraging to see how that has developed over the summer. Dragonflies were seen in a very short space of time and we hope that visiting wildfowl will soon be seen on the pond!

Disabled car parking areaDisabled car parking area
New disabled car parking was constructed to the left of the visitor centre. There are now three disabled places and a new footpath has been made round the front of the centre to the main entrance, making access to the centre easier. There is a lift to all three floors in the centre.

Please note visitors are requested to park in the main car park. Disabled visitors may come through the main car park and turn first left to the disabled parking area. Only staff and volunteer vehicles are allowed further down this lane past the ponds to the staff car park area.

TMCTeifi Marshes Centre
The new office building is now finished and has been named the Teifi Marshes Centre (or TMC for short!). The conservation staff will have an office and desk space of their own and there is another office for senior management to use. There is also a good sized workshop to house the conservation tools and the mule (not the four legged sort!). The meeting room has been named the Harlow Room and is available to hire for meetings by local groups and organisations.

Children's adventure playgroundChildren's adventure playground
The children's playground is down the lane past the visitor centre and theTeifi Marshes Centre. New slides and rope and board structures were erected in 2007 and wood carvings have been made on trees. There are also some new willow structures - one of an owl and one of a badger - to play in and around. These pictures were taken last autumn - they will have fresh green growth in the spring!
