Taking Wildlife to Work

Did you know your Wildlife Trust can help you or your employer to make your workplace a nicer place to be?  Or that by joining Welsh Wildlife Partnerships, companies with no land of their own can give something to nature and their local community?

You may work in a factory, a business park or the centre of town: wherever you are, the Wildlife Trusts, through the Wildlife Partnerships programme can help you to make space for nature.

Demonstrate your commitment to the environment and help to make Wales an even more beautiful place to live and work.

Our Wildlife Partners come from every sector: from construction companies looking to include wildlife in their developments through to chemical plants with nature reserves on their land, from commercial law firms to IT companies.  There’s something for everyone and I firmly believe that every business in Wales has something to gain from the Wildlife Trusts and something to offer wildlife.  Furthermore, there is a genuine desire by many who work in business and industry to care for our natural environment.

There are a myriad of opportunities for companies who want to work with the Wildlife Trusts; just a few of the things that our partners are doing are given here to spur your imagination.  We can arrange reserves visits and Team Challenges for staff who don’t get much chance to enjoy the wider countryside.  Joining the corporate membership scheme delivers on the biodiversity commitment that is a part of ISO 14001 certification.  For companies who have Corporate Social Responsibility or Environment policies, partnering the Wildlife Trusts demonstrates that the company is committed to the local environment and local community.  Where companies do have access to land, the programme offers the expertise of the Wildlife Trusts to improve land management for wildlife either on site or elsewhere.

Companies have also directly funded areas of our work and this is something we hope to increase in the future as it works so well for all involved.  Dow Corning not only provide a fantastic wildlife haven on their site, but support an Education Officer post so that children from Barry and Cardiff can have a safe and supportive environment within which to experience our natural world. Corus have supported the development of a community wildlife garden in Briton Ferry, including an opportunity for shop floor staff to get out and do something a bit different.  In some of our most densely populated areas with the biggest industrial legacy, today’s companies are helping us to create Living Landscapes for people and wildlife.

In short, the benefits of forming partnerships with companies are massive and the kinds of partnerships are as varied as the companies we work with. If you think that your company might be interested in becoming one of our Wildlife Partners and engaging more closely with your local trust, please give me a call or drop me an email so we can begin to think about what we might be able to do together.
