Staying on Skokholm
Following the purchase of Skokholm Island by the Wildlife Trust in 2006, plans have been afoot to improve the island infrastructure to enhance the visitor experience. Currently the buildings are in a poor state of repair and surveys have identified a number of areas of concern. The Trust has therefore decided to suspend residential stays on the island until the planned renovation work has been completed. We do not have a time scale for this work. Island conservation work and day trips to the island will continue during this period, for details see below.

We are again planning a series of one-day trips to Skokholm Island in 2010 which are of course weather dependent.

Skokholm Restoration Project Appeal
The Skokholm Restoration Project aims to improve the infrastructure of the island to enhance the visitor experience and make the island more sustainable, whilst retaining its unique ambience. Future plans for Skokholm include:
· aiding access by making improvements to the landing jetty
· renovating the accommodation to make all buildings secure, comfortable and able to meet current standards and requirements
· decreasing the island’s impact on the environment by introducing composting toilets, renewable energy systems and improved water infrastructure
· improving visitor and staff facilities such as the library, office and workshop; including provision of better interpretation of the island
The Appeal has already started successfully, with some funds passing over from the original purchase appeal, and a grant secured from a charitable trust to support some infrastructure improvements, but there is still much to do.
