Skomer and Educational Groups

Skomer Island is an ideal place for field trips for both formal and informal learning opportunities.

There is a range of educational resources, facilities and support available: please read on and follow links as appropriate.

Teacher Inset Training Days

The Wildlife Trust organises Teacher Training Inset Days on Skomer Island each year in conjunction with Careers Wales.  Please contact our Education Officer, Julie Furber for more information: j.furber@welshwildlife.org or 01656 724100.

Educational Group Trips

Any Educational Group wanting to visit Skomer should contact the Island Booking Officer, Wendy Barnes-Jones at the Welsh Wildlife Centre: islands@welshwildlife.org or 01239 621600.

Groups must book their trip, which will ensure that the number of places on the Island their party requires will be kept for them for the day booked.

NB There is a limit of 250 people on the Island each day; the boat has a capacity of 50 passengers per trip; for the most appropriate learning experience, the Wildlife Trust aims to ensure that there are no more than 100 students on the Island on any one day.  Access to the Island is on a first come first served basis, the correct number of places will be reserved for booked Educational Groups, however, it may not be possible to ensure that a group is able to travel to the Island together on one boat.
